George Leggiero has served as Carillonneur at The Church of the Covenant since 1973, providing carillon music before and after Sunday worship and other church services. His playing has also celebrated weddings and marked memorial services, and he offers Friday Lunchtime Carillon Recitals throughout the year. He celebrated his fortieth year as Covenant Carillonneur by attending the World Carillon Federation congress in Belgium in 2014 where he was able to experience historic bells and instruments as well as the new trends in the carillon art.
George directed the Coveant handbell choirs for twenty-five years. He has also directed handbell choirs at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Cleveland Heights and The Cleveland Music School Settlement and has been a consultant for the handbell choirs at the Ratner School. He has served as faculty at the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers Festivals, and served as the Guild’s Ohio Chairperson. He has been Artist in Residence at Case Western Reserve University and recorderist with The Cleveland Baroque Soloists, and served as President and Music Director of the Greater Cleveland Chapter of the American Recorder Society.
Mr. Leggiero has degrees from Case Western Reserve University in Computer Engineering as well as Music History and Historic Performance. To support his musical habit, George is the Senior Applications Analyst for the University Libraries of Kent State University.
